Potential EV Driver FAQs

How fast can and electric car go?
At this point there is a great range of speed electric vehicles can go. The NEVs and LSVs can be driven in streets where speed limits are 25 to 35 MPH and below. However, there are some electric vehicles that are highway rated and can travel above 120 mph (although this above the legal speed limit). The industry is rapidly growing and many manufacturers are introducing electric vehicles that can be driven on roads and highways at normal highway speeds.

Are electric cars street legal?
Yes! Venta has a variety of models that range from LSVs  and NEVs to highway rated electric cars. Most LSVs reach speeds of up to 40 MPH however; traffic laws limit them to 25 to 35 MPH depending on each state’s laws.

What is the warranty?
All new electric vehicles come with a manufacture’s warranty. Most LSVs and NEVs have a warranty period of 1 Year/5,000 miles. It is great coverage considering the fact that they are neighborhood cars, thus not driven long distances and have much fewer moving parts than internal combustion engines. Some of the highway rated electric vehicles come with 3 year unlimited mile warranty, each manufacturer may differ.

The range depends on many factors. Your range will depend on how well you maintain the batteries, the terrain that you travel and the load that your vehicle carries. On average, you can anticipate a range of 25-40 miles with LSVs or NEVs.  Controlled flat course tests have achieved over 40-50 miles. There are electric vehicles that will be available soon with ranges up to 300 miles.

How long does it take to charge an electric vehicle?
It generally takes 6-8 hours for a full charge and 3-4 hours for an 80% charge on most of the models right now. However, new technologies are evolving that may reduce the total charge time to less than 10 minutes.

What is Regenerative Braking
Every time you step on your car's brakes, you're wasting energy. Automotive engineers have given this problem a lot of thought and have come up with a kind of braking system that can recapture much of the car's kinetic energy and convert it into electricity, so that it can be used to recharge the car's batteries.

How often do I have to replace the batteries?
On average, the batteries last 3 to 5 years depending on how you maintain them and how you drive. The most commonly used batteries are deep-cycle marine quality batteries; there are usually six per vehicle.
